Tamil Pudhalvan — Rs.1,000 Monthly Assistance for Boys in Higher Education

Scheme Overview

WHAT THE SCHEME IS

Tamil Pudhalvan is the companion scheme to Pudhumai Penn, for boys. It was
launched at Coimbatore on 9 August 2024 and is run by the Social Welfare and
Women Empowerment Department.

A boy who studied Classes 6 to 12 in a Government or Government-aided
Tamil-medium school, and who goes on to an undergraduate degree, a diploma or an
ITI course, is paid Rs.1,000 every month into his own bank account until that
course is completed.

WHERE IT STANDS

The department's own page records that 3.28 lakh boy students are receiving the
monthly assistance, with Rs.360 crore allocated in the current financial year.

Benefits

- Rs.1,000 per month, directly into the student's own bank account.
- Paid until the uninterrupted completion of his undergraduate degree, diploma
  or ITI course.
- Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer, monthly.

Eligibility

- Boy students who studied Classes 6 to 12 in Government or Government-aided
  schools, in Tamil medium.
- Pursuing their first higher education — a recognised undergraduate degree,
  diploma or ITI course at a recognised institution.
- A student already receiving another scholarship remains eligible.

How to Apply

The scheme is implemented through the UMIS online portal, on which the student
applies for himself. Your college office will confirm your enrolment.

WARNINGS
- The government charges no fee for this scheme. Do not pay any agent or
  middleman, and do not pay anyone who offers to "get it sanctioned" for you.
- No official will ask you for your OTP, ATM PIN or bank password.
- Do not enter your details on links forwarded through WhatsApp or Telegram.
  Check that the address ends in .gov.in before typing anything.
- TN JOBS does not accept applications for this or any other scheme, and will
  never ask you for money or documents.

Documents Required

Keep ready: school records showing Classes 6 to 12 in a Government or
Government-aided Tamil-medium school, the college admission or bonafide
certificate, Aadhaar, and bank account details in the student's own name.
